THE HISTORY OF TECHNOLOGY

From axe-makers who’s innovative minds have served as gifts to the evolving technology of today. Technology has always existed since the beginning of time. The only aspect of technology that changed is the rate at which new technologies are developed and the extent in which they change during these periods.
If I could talk about the history of all technologies, I am most certain that I would end up writing a bible instead of an article. Inspired by IBM’s innovative technologies with the use of computers, I will concentrate on communication technologies, more specifically that of computers.
The invention of computers was a long process that consisted of inputs by a number of different people from the invention of the Z1 computers in 1936 to the invention of Microsoft windows in 1985.

The first substantial computer was ENAIC (Electrical Numeral Integrator and calculator), invented by John W.Mauchly, a calculator using 18000 vacuum cubes and taking up 167m2 of floor space, different to what we use now. None the less, this was the first successful high-speed electronic digital computer. The vacuum cubes were later replaced by transistors then by circuit chips (still used today).[1]

More than 20 years later there is still a constant development in technologies made possible by
computers. We are constantly looking for the “NEXT BEST THING IN TECHNOLOGY` and with the rapid growth in technology development who knows what’s possible in the years next 20?
